The course examines the relation of Western political thought to current struggles against various forms of oppression. When white Western male theorists use the language of truth and justice, law and order, or rights and liberty, do they speak for everyone Or do their writings reinforce asymmetries of economic and social power Students consider various responses to questions such as these, while reading and discussing selections from Plato, Locke, Wollstonecraft, and Marx.
