This course explores the impact of historical memory with colonialism, class and ethnic conflict, economic and social change, international relations/globalization, religious revivalism, and women's changing status on politics in countries with Muslim majority populations, an area of the world that extends from the Atlantic coast of North Africa and across northern Africa, through west and south Asia to the islands of Indonesia in the Indian/Pacific oceans.
