This course explores the diverse cultures of North America, and examines the ways in which these cultures have changed as a result of colonialism, American and Canadian government policies, and public understandings of Native Americans and First Peoples. Through Native American perspectives, students gain a holistic understanding of histories and current issues in Native America today. Additionally, the ways in which Native peoples have resisted colonialism and detrimental policies through war, cultural survival, social movements, and activism are explored.
