This course narrates the development of British politics and society from 1900 into the 1990s. Special attention is given to Britain during the two world wars; the demise of Liberalism and the rise of Labour; the development of the British economy and the evolution of class consciousness; the end of overseas empire; and the relations of the English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh among themselves and with immigrants from the British Empire and Commonwealth.
