Prerequisite: A&S 105 or permission of instructor. (Anthropology) Is "globalization" just a marketing slogan or does it describe a process involving profound change in life on this planet? Topics include communication and transportation technologies, political and economic developments, commerce and culture. Considers relationships between the global and the local and whether the changes associated with globalization should be considered progress or catastrophe. Looks at how anthropologists and scholars in related fields are developing new research methods and rethinking their objects of study. Mullin.
