This course introduces the student to western philosophy by focusing on the writings of several philosophers from the ancient and medieval periods, including Plato and Aristotle. Topics typically covered include the Socratic method of philosophy; the significance of the human soul; teleological approaches to nature; and the role of faith and reason in the pursuit of knowledge. The course aims to improve the student's capacity for critical reading, writing and thinking. Prerequisite: completion of any required nondegree credit courses. (3 Credits)
