This course presents an interdisciplinary examination of the concept of Pan Africanism as a multidimensional, realistic, authentic, and effective mechanism by which people of African descent in the United States have related historically and culturally to the African dimension of their identity. The course will employ methods germane to the disciplines of history, sociology, political science, and anthropology. Factual information and theoretical analyses relative to the establishment and development of a consciousness among African Americans of an African past will be presented and discussed. The course will address also the implications of African Americans identification with Africa on the process of globalization and the formation of the African Diaspora. (3 Credits)
