This course provides an examination of the content, materials, and activities appropriate for an elementary school social studies program. Emphasis is given to the contributions of women and minorities, and lesson plans are created based on the Kansas State Standards for Social Studies. Citizenship and democratic values are main themes, as well as student diversity. The integrated study of history, geography, economics, and civics/government is investigated, while focusing oninstructional strategies that promote critical thinking and preparation for active citizenship. Prerequisite: successful completion of ED 100 and ED 242.
