Description: This course presents an overview of American Literature from the end of the Civil War to 1945. It may include authors and works from the Gilded Age, Progressivism, World War I, the Expatriates, the Jazz Age and the Harlem Renaissance. The course studies the role of literature to express and influence social, economic, and cultural realities of the United States. Specific topics and texts vary according to instructor and student preference and may include Twain, Bierce, Dickinson and Whitman. Prerequisites: EH200 Credit Hours: 3 CR.HR.
