Explores children's racial and ethnic identity development. Examines how children learn about and assimilate racial & ethnic distinctions to define self and others. Examines children's beliefs, assumptions and understandings about their race, culture, and identity. Examines and analyzes various theories of racial development. Discusses the impact family racial and cultural values and practices have on children's developmental functioning. Research on young children's racial awareness and attitudes is discussed. Cases are discussed and analyzed along with other group projects. Prerequisite: HDP 120/122-121/123 or HDP 124/126- 125/127.
