Emphasis on competing theoretical perspectives, the role of the sociocultural context, and cultural diversity. Particular focus on the connections between theory, research and practice. Introductory. develop literacy abilities within contexts that draw upon and extend home language competencies. Focuses both on native English speakers who speak nonmainstream varieties of English and on children who speak a first language other than English. Prerequisite: HDP 120/121 or HDP 124/125.
