Prerequisite: Not open to students who have completed SPAN 102 or a 200 or 300-level SPAN course or with 2 or more years of high school Spanish. The course introduces students to the specialized vocabulary and basic grammatical structures needed by people working in the field of social services. It gives students the opportunity to use their linguistic foundation to develop conversational ability in Spanish. Each lesson in the supplementary text focuses on a situation commonly encountered by social service professionals. Conversational skills are developed through realistic dialogues and original skits and conversations, which introduce the words and expressions that social service professionals need in their daily work. Offered once a year. 3 cr.
