Prerequisites: LSOC major and junior status or permission of the instructor. This course will present the law of Classical Athens as seen in the works of its poets, philosophers, and rhetoricians from the time of Solon to the age of Alexander. This will be followed by a review of the development of Roman jurisprudence from Cicero's republic through the age of Constantine, the code of Theodosius to the corpus juris of Justinian. The course will touch on the subsequent influence of Roman law on the Law of Europe and the Canon Law. 3 cr.
