Prerequisite: Two 100-level writing courses with a grade of "C" or better and juniorstanding, or permission of English chair. This is a study of Chaucer as literary artist and critic of his age. Emphasis is on The Canterbury Tales, materials describing the world of the fourteenth century, and the oral presentation of Chaucer's verse rather than a linguistic analysis of Middle English. This course satisfies the Humanities literature requirement for Arts and Sciences students. 3 cr.
