NOT OFFERED IN 2009-10. We will be reading novels and short stories by Asian-American writers, including Maxine Hong Kingston, Joy Kogawa, Ha Jin, Susan Choi, Wang Ping, Fae Ng, and Jhumpa Lahiri. Looking at works from the 1930s to the present moment, we will focus on themes of travel, mobility, arrivals and departures. What defines homelessness What constitutes a home When and where does a feeling of ordinariness or the everyday arise And how do the experiences of male and female immigrants compare with each oth-er These are only some of the questions that we will consider as we explore this rich and exciting body of literature.
