ECON 238 - Economics and Politics NOT OFFERED IN

Institution:
Wellesley College
Subject:
Description:
This course will cover the economic issues that will be discussed in the upcoming U.S. presidential election. We will cover the economic forces and the stylized facts at work behind the major economic issues facing the electorate: health care, in-come security (welfare), job security, taxes, income distribution, Social Security, trade, and global warming. This course is about the eco-nomic analysis of the issues and not the politics of the issues. We will compare and contrast the two candidates' proposals on each of the most pressing economic issues, both in the short run and in the long run, and attempt, where possible, to put them in their proper historical perspective.
