Zhao, Chen An introductory course that teaches the skills of listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing in Mandarin Chinese. Emphasis is on pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and communication. Computer programs for pronunciation, listening comprehension, grammar, and writing Chinese characters will be used extensively. Three 70-minute classes. Each semester earns 1.0 unit of credit; however, both semesters must be completed satisfactorily to receive credit for either course. Prerequisite: Open to students who can speak some Chinese (Mandarin or other Chinese dialect), or who have some knowledge about reading and writing Chinese characters.
