An introduction to contemporary Buddhist thought and practice, exploring the role of Buddhism in addressing issues of social and environmental concern. Basic concepts, text traditions and history of Buddhism will provide the foundation for understanding the contemporary developments of "engaged Buddhism" and its response to issues ofsocial justice, race, gender ethnicity, consumerism, advertising culture, info-age technology and the natural environment.
