Dougherty In this course, students will read selections from the important Greek poets of the archaic period such as Homer, Hesiod, Archilochus, Sappho, and Pindar. We will consider the poetry in light of the historical, cultural and literary context of the archaic period, focusing in par-ticular on issues of genre and performance. This course may be taken as either 207 or, with additional assignments, 307.
