Burns This course will introduce students to the worlds of Greece and Rome through the lens of archaeology to learn what the physical remains of the ancient world can tell us about how the Greek and Romans lived as well as about people living in the communities transformed by the spread of Greek and Roman cultures across the Mediterranean. We will compare artistic representations and literary texts with the material excavated from cities, sanctuaries, and tombs in our attempt to reconstruct the lives of citizens, slaves, and rulers alike.
