An introduction to the basic principles of organizing and performing music. Includes the study of rhythm, pitch, scales, and melodic construction. An in-depth study of the diatonic vocabulary of the common practice period. Skills corroborate theory with studies and practice in melodic and harmonic dictation, sight singing, score reading, rhythmic reading, listening, and vocabulary. Credit, 3 hours.
