Topics include note identification in treble, bass, and alto clefs; melodies in major and minor keys; increasingly remote modulations; complex rhythmic subdivision and syncopation; small forms; score reading. Materials include Bach chorales, classical symphonies, other vocal and instrumental works. Students must demonstrate sight-singing competency in the departmental examination to pass the course.
