Innovative larger works for jazz ensembles are studied, including writing for woodwinds, French horn, tuba, voice, percussion and strings. Assignments include writing for a variety of non-traditional jazz instrumental and vocal ensembles, with an emphasis on building large forms out of basic melodic, harmonic and rhythmic material.
