Description:

This course will serve to extend students' knowledge and skills in the practice of writing music software in MAX. The class builds on the skills developed in the Introduction to Music Programming: MAX/MSP. Students will extend their understanding and mastery in the MAX language in more sophisticated ways, to solidify their ability to handle more sophisticated musical information and structures. Specifically, the course will focus on three topics: 1) the extension of core music programming skills, 2) the introduction of core concepts in "computer listening", and 3) the introduction of central ideas in the design of algorithmic com- positional software. Students will be encouraged to develop their own personalized "working library" of algorithmic tools, as well as to compose at least one extendedwork of algorithmic composition using these tools.
