Three Credits Alternate Years: Spring 2010, 2012 Examines the continuing battle over film content, a battle as old as the medium itself. Against recurrent threats of federal censorship, filmmakers have struggled to present messages that have often been at odds with a vast array of powerful groups, from the Catholic Legion of Decency to National Organization for Women. Discussions will cover the erosion of the Production Code and the institution of a Rating system. Prerequisite: Limited to honors scholars.
