[Renumbered from FA 415] This seminar focuses on a group of operatic masterpieces currently performed in NYC opera houses by such composers as Monteverdi, Handel, Mozart, Verdi, Wagner, Puccini, and Berg. Both the music and the librettos are studied as the theme "opera as drama" is explored. Classroomdiscussion and viewing of the operas are supplemented with student presentations and attendance at two operas. 3 credits. Offered as needed; day.
