A survey of the principal groups of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, algae, protozoa, viruses, and rickettsiae) with emphasis on taxonomy, morphology, physiology, and their industrial and medical applications. Includes an intensive study of bacterial, rickettsial, chlamydial, algae, fungal, viral, and protozoan organisms of significance in the propagation of diseases. Prerequisite: BIO 104. Three lectures and three lab hours per week. Lab fee. 4 credits. Spring semester.
