Introduction to biology for majors-covers basic principles in cellular and molecular biology, genetics, development, ecology, and evolution. The organization of plants and animals from cells to integrated systems is discussed and a comparison made between plant and animal phyla. Considerable class time is devoted to a study of the chemistry of living organisms, including the origin of life, the organic constituents of organisms, the chemistry of heredity, cellular respiration, and photosynthesis. Corequisite: CHE 1201. Three lecture and four lab hours per week. Lab fee. 5 credits. Fall semester; day.
