An introduction course in the history of ideas and theories concerning the formulation and evaluation of both individual and social behavior, including questions of ethical relativism, the Good, existentialism, will, determinism, hedonism, utilitarianism, duty, liberalism, Marxism, justice and virtue. This course examines these issues in light of the aims and methods of great thinkers throughout history, such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Epicurus, Aquinas, Bentham, Mill, Locke, Smith, Marx, Kant, Rawls, Nozick, and MacIntyre.
