This is a one-semester survey course emphasizing the chemistry of proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids and their biochemical roles. The chemistry of enzymes will be discussed from the perspectives of kinetics and reaction mechanisms. A survey of important metabolic pathways will be presented with an emphasis on their integration and regulation. Students should have previously taken introductory college chemistry and one semester of organic chemistry or seek permission of the instructor.
