(5 credits) This course introduces the basic principles and methods of oceanography and marine biology in intensive, two-week classroom and field courses. Field work includes trips to salt marshes, sandy beaches, and rocky intertidal habitats, visits to the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University, the New England Aquarium, the Kendall Whaling Museum in the Gulf of Maine, and a day aboard a research vessel, where students collect and analyze water and plankton samples. Students pay entry fees where appropriate. Summer. Group: III.
