A survey of transportation and its importance as a pervasive and vital function of an industrialized economy. The New Orleans area is a prime transportation city providing critical links between producers and consumers, both domestically and internationally. Industrialized economies, such as the New Orleans area, are totally dependent upon others' production of food and manufactured products, and upon a transportation system that links the spatial and temporal gap between both the producers and consumers of goods. Transportation modes, third party transportation and carriers, urban/metropolitan transportation, rate making and costs in 264 transportation, traffic management, regulation and deregulation, management information systems, and communications are all covered in this course.
