This course will acquaint the student with various theories, techniques, and issues in the practice of psychotherapy and counseling. Foci include several of the commonly used theoretical perspectives (including psychoanalytic, person-centered, and behavioral views as well as employing a practical, integrative approach to counseling clients with respect to diversity, gender, ethnicity, culture, and social class. Professional and ethical issues involved in the therapist-client relationship will also be stressed. Prerequisites: PSY 180.
