MA 401 - Abstract Algebra I

Institution:
Midway University
Subject:
Description:
This course is a study of abstract mathematical systems beginning with groups and gradually building other systems which are increasingly complex. The systems: groups (including abelian, euclidean, and orthogonal), rings, and ideals are studied. Throughout the course the various aspects of these systems which underlie and guide understanding of the mathematics subjects, especially algebra, encountered in college and pre-college are studied. In addition applications to other mathematical studies and real-life connections are noted and studied. Prerequisite: MA 140 (minimum "C" grade).
