This course is designed to present to the student the theory and practice of investigation through application of deductive and inductive reasoning. Various techniques of investigation will be reviewed in a practical and theoretical sense, linking these methods to: 1) the crime scene, 2) physical evidence collection, 3) injury and death investigation, 4) burglary investigation, 5) rules of evidence, and 6) interviews and interrogation techniques. The purpose of the course is to acquaint the law enforcement student with proven methods of investigation, and to create an awareness of the problematic nature of investigation; in particular those problems that involve the cooperation of other agencies of the criminal justice system.
