This course will examine the vaerious methodologies of historical research and writing, i.e., how historians actually practice the craft of history in reading, research, writing, and teaching. It is intended as a primer in the nuts and bolts of the profession, as well as a course in the general art and craft of turning a thesis statement into a publishable work. Submission of a short research paper, commonly known as a Senior Thesis, is required, as is an in-class oral defense. This course is the second of two capstone graduation requirements for all history majors. Prerequisite:HI481 for history majors or instructor's permission for non-majors. Credit three hours. (Fee $7)
