Subject:
Description:
The purposes, types and uses of assessment data as it relates to the learning of mathematics in the elementary school. The focus is on determining the extent of ownership of conceptual and procedural understandings and/or misconceptions of identified mathematical topics. Efficiency in the use of varied assessment techniques in an effort to provide learners of mathematics equal opportunities of revealing their mathematical knowledge, skills, attitudes, and needs. Emphasis is also on the use of assessment-driven data to plan standards-based learning experiences that address identified needs. Students acquire statistical skills needed to interpret norm-based and criterion-based scores. Preservice teachers assess the mathematical understandings of individual students or of a select group of students in a field-base setting and plan and facilitate learning experiences aimed at the remediation and/or development of identified mathematical needs.
