This course will first have a contemporary overview of the culture and politics of East Asia. After covering the entire area, we will specialize in its major power military and economic China. China will be covered from the late Quing Empire to the contemporary period. Then we will cover Japan's culture, politics, and economics. Finally we will cover the latest major power and its communist twin: Korea.
