Indian society is shaped by its recent history, including the colonial period, and by the ongoing phenomenon of globalization. The new has not entirely replaced the old, and neither has the global replaced the local. Rather, all of these elements exist side by side. This course will attempt to make sense of this confusion! Can be repeated if cultural area is different. Prerequisite: HIS 113 or sophomore standing. Fall semester. Bagchi. Offered 2008-09 and alternate years.
