Introduces methods of carving stone "in the round" and in relief. Subtractive methods of carving employed whileincorporating elements of sculptural form, including mass/space relationships, volume, surface planes, transitional forms and textural variety. Students use traditional and power tools with varieties of alabaster and limestone. Representational and nonrepresentational imagery from both Western and non-Western traditions encouraged. Prerequisite: major or permission of instructor. Lab fee.
