Prerequisites: Completion of G.E. Foundation courses; ANTH 120 or SOC 100 or 142 and standing or consent of instructor. Factors influencing design of textiles and apparel, techniques of textile and apparel production, and human behavior in the selection of dress in societies and cultural groups. Emphasis on symbolism of textiles and clothing designs as a communicative device for expressing social and cultural values. Impact of other cultures on western dress and impact of western dress on other apparel systems. (Seminar 3 hours.)
