Prerequisites: BIOL 212, 212L with grades of "C" or better, and consent of instructor. Introduction of scope and use of biological information, molecular structure, and literature databases. Basic comparison methods of DNA and protein sequences including sequence alignment, analysis of 3-D structures, and phylogenetic analysis. Fundamentals of DNA sequencing and genetic survey techniques included. Letter grade only (A-F). (Lecture 1 hr., laboratory 3 hrs.)
