Prerequisites: BIOL 111, 111L, 212, 212L, 213, 213L, 260 and three units of BIOL, all with a grade of " C" or better. Recommended: BIOL 350. (Undergraduates enroll in BIOL 424; graduates enroll in BIOL 524.) Ecology, morphology, physiology, behavior, and taxonomy of birds from an evolutionary perspective, also factors influencing recent increase in their extinction risk. Species identification techniques (emphasis on the local avifauna) and methods of surveying avian populations. Letter grade only (A-F). (Lecture 2 hrs., laboratory/field 3 hrs.) Course fee may be required.
