This course covers slavery, indentured servitude, and free labor from the colonial period to the Civil War. It examines English labor law and its effect on the indenture system and the regulation of free labor in early America. Efforts of the American colonists to invent rules for a slave system; varying infl uences which led to regional differences in this institution are also discussed in this course. Note: credit cannot be given for BGS 333-95A and History 327-95A. (1 Credit)
