An exploration of the various 20th century social movements that have confronted the criminal justice system, and the various ways these movements have affected judicial interpretation of the U.S. Constitution. Specifi c areas of focus include the impact of civil rights on police methods, prison reform and hate crimes legislation; civil liability of law enforcement and corrections offi cials; the rights pertaining to due process and equal protection for accused and convicted individuals; and the role of law in efforts to evaluate and solve social problems.
