Current status of nationalism, nation-states, and the global economy; how cultural identities and communities are formed within the context of global systems. Topics may include effects of world markets on economies and societies, transnational migration and social movements, indigenous groups' self-representation through global technologies such as video and the Internet, hybrid identities and "bifocal" cultural frameworks. See Soc/Pos 314. Prereq: Anth 240 or Soc 241 or six sem hrs in social sciences. (3 Credits)
