Differing systematic approaches to the study of psychology. Relates psychology to the broader context of the history of western philosophy and science. Perennial issues such as the mind-body dichotomy and the nativism-empiricism controversy are traced through a succession of historical periods to show how modern attitudes developed. Other concepts include mechanism, determinism, association, functionalism, structuralism, holism, and behaviorism. This course is recommended especially for those students who will be continuing their studies in graduate school. PRQ: PSYC 100. Scheduled: Fall, even years. Meets: SNO.
