This course traces significant developments in the history of art and architecture across the globe from Pre-History into the Medieval Period. One of the goals of this course is for students to understand individual works and monuments as expressive of their unique social, cultural, political, and economic periods and of their creators' and patrons' individual sensibilities. In addition, this course is designed to introduce students to the nature, vocabulary, materials, and techniques of art making.
