This introductory course to the field of diagnostic medical sonography discusses the role of diagnostic medical sonography in the field of radiology and the role of the sonographer. Professional ethics and legal issues pertinent to sonography are covered. Ultrasound terminology and ultrasound tissue characterization are presented. Cross-sectional anatomy of the upper abdomen in the sagittal, transverse and coronal planes utilizes schematic images and ultrasound correlation.
