This course emphasizes the socialization function of schools and the increasing culturally and linguistically diverse students, intercultural relations, and educational equity in the classroom, as well as educational issues of school safety, family and community involvement and influence, and the place of public schools in mediating differences. The course also includes an introduction to the history and philosophy of education. Twenty hours of field work in a secondary school are required. Personal transportation recommended.
